Sayyed Fadlullah: Time is passing and the Arabs just sit there and watch… Had it not been for the Resistance in Lebanon and Palestine the rest of the Arab Lands would have been occupied. There is a dire need for a movement of change from the inside of the Arab and Muslim world, for “Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change their own condition.”

Asked in his weekly seminar the following question: How do you read the European reservations concerning the issue of trying Israel for its building of the racial wall in the occupied territories?

The Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah said:

We have always stressed that we should not forget the main issue in Palestine and become overwhelmed with details. We should not divert the attention from the Zionist occupation and focus on certain details that might turn the attention of the region and the world away from the main issue of occupation… But when it comes to beating Israel in any of the details, we should make every effort to defeat Israel, despite the fact that Israel’s concentration on the separating wall aims at making the world forget the issue of the Zionist occupation to Palestine.

The issue is that the ruling of the International Court of Justice is not binding. Nevertheless, America does not accept the condemnation of Israel from such a credible international institution. Trying or condemning Israel is a trail and a condemnation to the American Administration itself, being the one that supported all Israeli crimes and provided political cover for them, including that of the separating wall that constituted a flagrant aggression against the international community.

However, we find no justification for the European reservations, concerning this issue, especially those made by such countries as France, Germany and Russia, despite all the American pressures that are being exerted on them.

It might be that Israel, which lost a lot of support among the European peoples as it is evident from the latest opinion polls, has turned to the American Administration to provide some compensations by exerting pressures on the European governments to force them to support Israel.

Therefore, these new stands should provide a sounding bell for the Arabs that would make them realize that there is no international movement in this stage to jumpstart the political process. On the contrary, it seems that the international powers have agreed to prevent any change or breakthrough in the Palestinian issue before the American presidential election. In the meantime, Israel would have had all time it needs to build the wall that would draw the borders of the Palestinians entity as a fact on the ground.

The issue is not one of security as Israel claims. If it were, why did not Israel build it on the 1967 borders? It is the on the ground consequences of the brutal occupation mentality that Israel finds several international parties to support the steps it dictates.

We ask the Arabs: What are you going to do? Are you waiting for the Road Map, which America has transformed into an empty promise? Or are you waiting for the Arab summit in Tunis to declare that you oppose what is going on with additional worthless communiqués.
