Sayyed Fadlullah: why wouldn't the American Administration be tried along side with Saddam. The law holds that the motivator and the inciter as well as those who committed the actual crime should be punished. Had the nations tried the arrogant powers along with the tyrants who were produced by them, things would have been very different.

Asked in his weekly seminar the following question: You have often called for trying America for its crimes in the region; do you think that Saddam's trial could lead in one way or another to trying America?

The Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah said:

When we study the sources of power Saddam Hussein used to have, we notice that the United States have provided him with all the means and conditions that made him a tyrant not only in his country but in the entire region as well. Moreover, the successive American Administrations established strong and personal relations with him, including a strong relationship with the current US minister of defense and vice-president.

The Iraqi- Iranian war which destroyed the Iraqi Army and the infrastructures of Iraq and Iran was initiated by the US and its allies who fought through Saddam. They used to give him all the intelligible about the Iranian Army he needed. They also provided him with WMDs and especially chemical agents. They also pressurized the Gulf countries to finance the war.

Thus, Saddam’s war against Iran was in fact an American war waged to undermine the Islamic revolution. It is quite telling that the Iranian war was not included in the list of accusations against Saddam.

As for Kuwait, everybody knows that America through its than Ambassador in Iraq, April Glasby, has urged Saddam to invade Kuwait, by giving him a yellow-greenish light, since America was planning to turn Saddam into an intimidation force that would create favorable conditions to legitimize the American military presence in the Gulf, and pave the way to extend it to the whole region.

When the Iraqi army was driven out of Kuwait, the US made it clear that it did not want to put an end to Saddam's regime, despite the fact that all what America claimed as reasons to invade Iraq were there at that time. America then helped Saddam in crushing the popular uprising, which as about to topple him had if not been for the US support…

Faced by all these wars, genocides, use of chemical weapons on his own people… etc, we wonder why America remained silent then. This silence suggests that America was planning right from the beginning to reach this stage where it could wage a war on the whole region to promote its national strategic interests.

There is even some information that proves that planning to occupy Iraq began in the beginning of the eighties.

All this drives us to ask why the American Administration wouldn’t be tried along side with Saddam. The law holds that the motivator and the inciter as well as those who committed the actual crime should be punished.
