The OIC Summit in Malaysia

Sayyed Fadlullah:The current stage is one of the most critical, and the Islamic Conference has to uphold its full responsibility; It has in particular to seek to create a certain balance of force by fighting both the external conspiracies and internal deceases of confessionalism and sectarianism. Lest the Islamic and Arab people will forget this organization and lose any interest in it

Asked in his weekly seminar the following question : In view of the mounting attack on any party or front which still opposes the arrogant hegemony that is accompanied with American threats and an Israeli aggression in Syria and occupied Palestine...

The summit of the Islamic Conference Organization is preparing its final communiqué, whose features are already clear since it will contain the usual verbal denouncements and condemnations. What, in your view, is the role of this organization, and could the Islamic nation still rely on it to solve its current and future problems?

The Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah said:

We have been hoping, like many others, that the organization will focus on the Islamic issues in an effective manner, and act in a way similar to that of the European Union in its effort to preserve the European identity despite all the European cultural differences which do not exist in the Islamic world. We also expect the organization to follow these issues from the point of view of sustaining the strength and the pride of the nation. We are disappointed to notice that its conferences have become mere festivals and only serve to create the illusion that the Islamic regimes are concerned with the Islamic issues.

Those who represented in the conference ought to ask themselves: Does its Islamic identity of the conference mean anything to them? Or are they going to forget everything about the conference once they return safely to their local issues at home?

The role of the conference cannot be limited to rejecting that Islam is terrorist. It should warn the American Administration and Israel from the consequences of continuing their policy of aggression and terror to let the world know who the real terrorist is. Then the conference should study the root causes of terror: Is it a product of a mentality that consider violence as the only way to solve the existing problems in the Islamic world... Are not these mentalities fed by the American and Israeli oppression and suppression to the Arab and Muslim peoples, as well as their hegemony over their wills and resources. They should not be intimidated by the American accusation and act in the way they want us to act. You have to study the issues on the basis of what is best for the Islamic internal security and not what America or the other international powers want you to do.

To preserve its security whose concept is constantly broadening to accommodate the widening of the American interests, America wants to transform the Muslim states into a kind of police that safeguards its security in the world. This is not an emotional reaction since we have been witnessing how several Islamic officials rushed to make every effort to show America that they are fighting terrorism. Moreover, things have begun to have an impact even on the Islamic culture and charity organizations which have been targeted under the pretense of supporting terrorism. This will aggravate the state of poverty and deprivation and make us, at least according to their plans, beg America to relief us at the expense of our major political issues.

The Islamic world is facing an escalating war with the American-Israeli alliance seeking to liquidate the Palestinian people, and to threaten all the countries that chose to confront America with a fate similar to that of Iraq. Thus, when we study what America wants from Iran, Syria and Lebanon, we realize that it wants them to help in securing the U.S. occupation of Iraq and guard its boarders against any infiltration.

The current stage is one of the most critical, and the Islamic conference has to uphold its full responsibility; it has in particular to seek to create a certain balance of force by fighting both the external conspiracies and internal deceases of confessionalism and sectarianism, lest the Islamic and Arab people will forget this organization and lose any interest in it. What is the use of an organization whose Job is to issue ceremonial communiqués, and which does not even want to try to make policies and seek to implement them?
