Sayyed Fadlullah: we feel reassured and relieved by the way Iran, and Syria, is treating the entire issue, that has succeeded in keeping the spirit of opposition and confrontation to injustice alive in this nation

The Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah answered the following question:

Q: As the American impasse in Iraq aggravates, the last few days witnessed new American and Israeli threats to Iran and Syria, especially after the deployment of “Shihab3”, and the Israeli announcement that this “represents a threat not only to Israel but to the region and Europe as well”… How do you read these threats considering what is going on in the region?

A: First of all, one should consider the American threats to Iran and Syria, the last of which the American president’s demand that “Syria and Iran should stop their support to terrorism ”, as being Israeli threats in actual fact… Israel is trying to obtain new stances and concessions in the region, in the light of the shift in the balance of force… And if the former secretary of state, Henry Kissinger says that his county’s policy towards Iraq is only partially related to protecting Israel, we know that this policy aims in the first place to maintain Israel’s supremacy in the region and America’s supremacy in the world.

Israel considered that what had happened in Iraq represents the fall of a strategic force that potentially threatens it. The Zionists view the scientific and military growing abilities in Iran as being a substantial support to Iran’s political stance that could fill the strategic vacuum that the war against Iraq had created. Iran was able to contain the ongoing threats and pressures on her, and get on with its military defensive program that not only shields her but also provides a broad protection to the Arabs and Muslims, and especially the Palestinian cause in a time the Muslims and Arabs are facing the most dangerous attack that aims at defeating them.

In the following stage, we expect that the pace of the American threats to Iran and Syria will escalate, especially as the impasse that the Americans found themselves in, in Iraq is tightening. Under these circumstances the Americans are in a hurry to reap certain political and economic gains before the developments lead to a military imbalance and a political sinking in the Iraqi quicksand. Thus, at a time the US is making threats in all directions, it started to talk about the possibility of putting international troops in place of the Americans in several Iraqi posts.

Although we appreciate the dangerousness of American and Israeli threats against Syria and in Iran to influence their positions towards Iraq, Palestine and towards the Arabs and Muslim causes as a whole, we feel reassured and relieved by the way Iran, and Syria, is treating the entire issue, that has succeeded in keeping the spirit of opposition and confrontation to injustice alive in this nation.

Yet these two stances that provide protection for the nation have to be supported by the free elements in our nation if steadfastness is to be ultimately transformed to victory.
