The impact of boycott is greater than
that of demonstrations
Palestinian steadfastness hindered the American
plans for the region.
in his weekly seminar about the political and security situation in
the region, as the Americans are preparing for the second phase of
their “war against terrorism”, the Religious Authority Sayyed
Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah said: It could be said that the
Palestinians paid the most severe price for the events that occurred
in the aftermath of the September 11 explosions. First, when Sharon
was given a free hand to commit new massacres, and then when the Arabs
and Muslims appeared to be encouraging Israel to continue its war and
destroy the Palestinian infrastructure...
Islamic and Arab conferences gave Sharon additional incentives to
escalate his terrorist campaigns. For he did not see any real threat
except that of the anger of the “Arab street”, which the regimes
are trying to control within a certain limit. Sayyed Fadlullah
criticized the ongoing debate regarding the boycott of American goods,
and stressed that the impact of this boycott on the American
Administration is greater than the demonstrations. He also called for
the widening of the boycott to make America understand that the Muslim
and Arab peoples are capable of punishing it, for its support of the
added that the Arab and Muslim weakness, and even the plotting and
conspiring of certain Arab regimes, who were afraid that the Intifada
will embarrass them... This weakness encouraged America to give the
green light to the enemy to invade the West Bank and commit the
ugliest massacres which were meant to convey a message to the
Palestinians that such massacres that resemble those of Sabra and
Chatila constitute the new way of treating them, if they do not yield
to the Israeli conditions, opening the way for the Americans to
continue their war in the region which might not be confined to Iraq
is quite significant that the White House is receiving the Arab
officials at a time the Palestinians are facing the most brutal and
savage war. The Americans want to suggest to the world that there is
no problem with the Arab world as long as the Arab officials resort
only to pleading and begging.
is also significant that the commander of the US CENTCOM has visited
an Arab state, met with its president, and even held a press
conference in which he declared that the situation in Palestine did
not delay any American plan of military operations in Iraq.
know quite well that the Palestinian steadfastness has hindered the
American plans for the region. It even embarrassed the Americans who
supported the Zionist terror and made several European countries stand
against, or at least doubt, the so-called “War against terrorism”.
But the problem is that the nation is still acting in terms of
reactions without any plans of how to deal with the coming stage, with
many still expecting the Palestinians to defend them with their flesh.
We should not wait for the
developments to unfold in Palestine. Instead we should hasten to draw
a plan of confrontation, in which the effort of the masses will
complement those of the regimes that uphold their responsibility and
believe that they will be the next targets. Thus, we should search for
additional ways of support for the Palestinians, whose ability of
sacrifice seems almost legendary.
