Saturday is the first of the month of Rabi Ath-Thani

Date: 06/12/2018 A.D 28 Rabi Al-Awal1440H H

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Rabi Ath-Thani 1440H. Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Rabi  Ath-Thani 1440  will be born on Friday at 07:20 (GMT) that is09:20, Beirut time.

On the eve of Friday, the crescent cannot be sighted in Beirut, neither with the naked eye nor with the aid of telescopes. However, it may be seen by the naked eye in some parts of the world that we do not share a part of the night with.  It can also be seen with the aid of telescopes in certain regions of the Americas, which weshare a part of the night with.

Therefore, Saturday  December 8, 2018,is the first of the month of Rabi  Ath-Thani, 1440 H. in the regions that shares a part of the night with the regions where the crescent can be seen, including Lebanon, while Sunday December 9, is the first of the month of Rabi  Ath-Thani, 1440 H. in the regions that do not share a part of the night with the regions where the crescent can be seen, according to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems it enough to sight the crescent, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes, in any region with which we share a part of the night.

We invoke Allah, the Most Exalted, to make this month a month of worship and full obedience to Him and to grant the believers success in doing what pleases and satisfiesHim.
