Tuesday is the first of Rabi’ II

Date: 18/12/2017 A.D 30 Rabi’ I 1439 H

Translated by: Manal Samhat

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), issued a statement in which it announced that Tuesday, December 19, 2017 is the first of the month of Rabi’ II 1439 H. based on the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra).

Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Rabi’ II 1439 H. will be born on Monday, December 18, 2017 A.D. at 06:30 a.m. (GMT) that is, at 08:30 a.m. Beirut time. The crescent cannot be sighted even by the aid of telescopes in the horizon of Beirut. However, the crescent can be sighted in the southern part of North America, in Central America and in the northern part of South America by the aid of telescopes, and since we share a part of the night with these regions where the sighting is possible, then, the following day, Tuesday, December 19, 2017 is the first of the month of Rabi’ II 1439 H. in these regions, and Wednesday, December 20, 2017 is the first of Rabi’ II 1439 for the regions that do not share a part of the night with the regions where the sighting is possible, based on the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems that it is enough to establish the sighting, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes, in any region of the world with which a part of the night is shared.

We invoke Allah to grant the believers success in this month to worshipping Him and performing good deeds and Him accepting these deeds. We also invoke Him to grant us victory over the enemies and hasten our relief, He is the Most Merciful.
