Saturday, is the first day of Safar

Date: 20/10/2017 A.D 30/01/1439 H

The Juristic Office at the Institution of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) issued a statement in which it declared thatSaturday ,October 21,2017 is the first of the month of Safar 1439 H , according to the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra).

Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Safar 1439 H. will be born on Thursday, October 19 ,2017 A.D.at 19:12 p.m. (GMT): that is , at 22:12 p.m. Beirut time . The crescent cannot be sighted by the naked eye nor by the aid of telescopes in any region in the world, regardless of the criterion adopted(1).  Therefore , Friday , October 20,2017 A.D. is the thirtieth , and hence the last day of the Month of Muharram , and Saturday , October 21 is the first of the Month of Safar  1439 H.

However, in the night that follows the birth night,( Friday evening)the crescent can be sighted by the naked eye easilyor if the weather is clear in many regions , or by the aid of telescopes .

Therefore, based on above, and regardless of the fact that Friday, being the last day of the month of Muharram , Saturday , will be the first of the Month of Safar in all regions, in accordance with the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who considers that the beginning of the month is established if the crescent can be sighted in any region with which we share a part of the night , whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes .

We invoke Allah, the Most Exalted, to bring us together and unite us over the good, guidance and piety, to increase the rewards of the strivers and to bless the Islamic nation with unity, pride and dignity and make it triumphant over its enemies; He is All-Hearing and Responsive.

May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be bestowed upon you.
