His Eminence, Sayyed Jaafar Fadlullah, delivered the two Friday prayer sermons at the Imamain Al-Hassanain Mosque, Shaaban, 6th 1437 H. – May, 13th 2016. Several prominent religious scholars, dignitaries and thousands of believers attended the Jumu’a prayer.
In the first sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Jaafar Fadlullah, talked about the tribal concept of revenge. The Sayyed said that although there are certain tribal values which are moral and humanistic and which Islam adopted and encouraged, such as courage and generosity, revenge is by no means one of them. In this respect, the Quran called for fair punishment, yet this punishment should be practiced only in case the crime has been proven without doubt.
Moreover, the judgment should be reached by a religious authority who is the only one authorized to judge and identify the suitable punishment. If it is left for people to take the law in their own hands, we will end up living in chaos, since anyone can accuse others of a certain crime and go ahead in executing the punishment, even if it has not been established that the victim of revenge targeted has committed the crime.
In the second sermon, the Sayyed talked about the anniversary of the 25th of May, the Day of Resistance and Liberation. He emphasized the significance of the Day, being the day the Resistance defeated the Zionist enemy and forced it to flee from Lebanon, achieving a major victory that inspired the Arab and Muslim nations.
