Monday is the first day of Rajab

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Rajab, 1444H. Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Rajab, 1444H, will be born on Saturday January 21, at 20:53 (GMT) that is 22:53 Beirut time.

On Saturday evening, sighting is impossible except in some regions in the far west which although the moon could be sighted in with the armed eye, we do not share a part of the night with. Thus, Sunday, 22/01/2023, is the day that completes the month of Jamada II (30 days).

On Sunday night, sighting by the naked eye is easily possible in South America, a large part of North America and the Southern part of Africa. Sighting by the naked eye is also possible provided the weather is clear and the observer is experienced in the Northern part of Africa and some regions of Europe. In addition, sighting by armed eye is possible in Asia and the Far East. Thus, Monday 23-01-2023 is the first day of Rajab 1444, since the previous month would have completed 30 days, according to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems it enough to sight the crescent, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes, in any region with which we share a part of the night.

We invoke Allah, the Most Exalted, in the beginning of these blessed months of worship to grant us success to obey and worship Him. May He unite the believers on doing good and being pious. He is the Most Merciful.
