Thursdayis the first of Zul-Qi’da

Date: 29/06/2019 A.D 26 Shawwal 1440 H

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Rabi Zul-Qi’da 1440 H.

Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month ofZul-Qi’da 1440 H.will be born on Thursday , July4, 2019, at 19:16 (GMT) that is, at 22:16, Beirut time.

On the eve of Tuesday, the crescent cannotbe sightedin any part of the world, as shown in map[1].Therefore, Wednesday is the day that completes the month of Shawal. On Wednesday night, as we see in the map, it can be seen by the naked eye  and by telescopes , as follows:

1- it can be seen easily by the naked eye in the regions colored green , which are most of the regions of the Americas and certain regions in Africa.

2-it can be seen easily by the naked eye provided that the weather is clear in the regions colored with pink , as in most regions of Africa and some of the regions of Asia and Europe.

3- It can be seen by telescopes in the regions colored with navy blue , as in some regions of Europe , Asia ,Australia and other regions

Therefore, Thursday , July4, 2019 is the first of Zul-QIda 1440 H.in all the regions of the world[2] in accordance  to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems it enough to sight the crescent, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes, in any region with which we share a part of the night.

We invoke Allah, the Most Exalted, to make this month a month of worship and full obedience to Him and to grant the believers success in doing what pleases and satisfies Him.

[1]The red color means that the crescent cannot be seen  , either because it sets before the sunset , or because the conjunction  occurs  after sunset . The uncolored part means that the crescent cannot be seen, despite the fact that it sets after sunset and the conjunction occurs before sunset, because it does not have sufficient light or it is close to the horizon.

[2] This is because in the regions the month of Shawal  began on Tuesday, it would have completed thirty days , while in the regions that it started on Wednesday , either the crescent can be seen or it shares   a part of the night with the regions in can be seen in.
