Friday is the first of Zul-hijja1440H.

Date: 31/07/2019 A.D - H

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Zul-hijja 1440H

Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month ofZul-Hijja 1440 H.will be born on Thursday , August 1, 2019, at 3:12 (GMT) that is, at 6:12, Beirut time.

On the eve of Thursday, the crescent canbe sighted by telescopes in Lebanon and certain parts of the world, as shown in themap [figure 1](1).Therefore,Friday  is the  first day of the month ofZul-Hijja.The month of ZulQida , will therefore be  incomplete (29 days ). The map shows that sighting by the naked eye and the armed eye is possible as follows:

1-   Sighting by the naked eye is easily possible in the regions colored in green such as the western parts of the Americas.

2-   Sighting  by the naked eye provided that the weather is clear is possible  in the regions colored in pink as  in central  and southern  south America and the north western parts of Africa.

3-   It can be seen by telescopes in the regions colored with navy blue , as in  Africa and the Arab countries.

Therefore, according to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems it enough to sight the crescent, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes, in any region with which we share a part of the night, Friday  August 2 , 2019 is the first of Zul-hijja 1440H., and theADHA Eid is on Sunday August 11 with no difference between the western and eastern parts of the world

We invoke Allah, the Most Exalted, to accept the deeds of  the pilgrims and to return the blessed Eid with  blessings and glory upon the Muslim Nation .

(1)The red color means that the crescent cannot be seen, either because it sets before the sunset, or because the conjunction occurs aftersunset. The uncolored parts mean that the crescent cannot be seen, despite the fact that it sets after sunset and the conjunction occurs before sunset, because it does not have light or it is close to the horizon.
